Description
Ground Beef and Dumplings is a hearty one-pot comfort dish featuring savory ground beef simmered in rich gravy, topped with soft, fluffy dumplings that soak up all the flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried herbs (thyme or parsley, optional)
- 1 cup vegetables (like carrots or peas, optional)
Instructions
1. Brown the ground beef in a large pot over medium heat, then drain excess grease.
2. Add chopped onion and garlic; cook until softened and fragrant.
3. Stir in beef broth and optional vegetables; bring to a simmer.
4. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and herbs. Stir in melted butter and milk to form a soft dough.
5. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough onto the simmering broth.
6. Cover pot tightly and steam dumplings over low heat for 15–20 minutes until puffed and cooked through.
7. Finish with black pepper and fresh herbs if desired. Serve hot.
Notes
Don’t lift the lid while dumplings are cooking—this ensures they steam properly.
You can use biscuit dough in a pinch, but homemade dumplings have better texture.
Add a splash of cream for a creamy version.
To reheat, add a bit of broth or water to loosen the gravy.
