Description
A creamy, savory seafood pie packed with fresh shrimp, cheese, and a flavorful blend of herbs and spices, all baked inside a flaky crust. This Florida Shrimp Pie is perfect for brunch, lunch, or a light dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 cup shredded cheese (such as cheddar or Monterey Jack)
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or your favorite seafood seasoning)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking the shrimp)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
3. Add the shrimp to the skillet, seasoning with Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook until the shrimp turn pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
4. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, sour cream, shredded cheese, and chopped green onions. Mix until smooth and well combined.
5. Fold the shrimp mixture into the creamy filling until evenly distributed.
6. If using a homemade or rolled pie crust, fit it into a 9-inch pie plate and pre-bake (blind bake) it for 8–10 minutes until slightly firm. If using a store-bought crust that’s already in a tin, skip this step.
7. Pour the shrimp filling into the crust and spread evenly.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden.
9. Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
For the best flavor, use fresh shrimp if possible. Thaw completely if using frozen shrimp.
This pie can be made in advance and reheated — the flavors continue to meld beautifully over time.
Try using different cheeses like Swiss or Gruyère for a fun variation.
Add a sprinkle of paprika or fresh herbs on top before baking for extra color and flavor.
The recipe is designed for a standard 9-inch pie plate. You can also use smaller, personal-sized pie plates — reduce the baking time to 18–22 minutes.
