Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 ½ cups sour cream (preferably full-fat)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter (for greasing dish)
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or green onions

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil or butter.

2. In a bowl, combine sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended.

3. Place chicken breasts in the baking dish. Spread the sour cream mixture generously over the top of each piece.

4. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the coated chicken breasts.

5. Cover with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).

6. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions, if desired.

Notes

Pound chicken breasts to even thickness for even cooking.

Substitute Greek yogurt for a lighter version.

Swap cheddar for mozzarella, gouda, or a cheese blend.

Add crushed crackers on top for extra texture.
